Katya Wojcik, ’18, knows how to persevere. Unsure of her ability to pursue an advanced degree, her exceptional performance in individual graduate classes caught the attention of her faculty who encouraged her to apply to the Master in Counseling program at Seattle University. While in the program, personal trauma from domestic violence sharpened her focus to counsel victims. When the pandemic forced counseling to move to a virtual format, Katya feared for domestic violence victims who couldn’t leave home. She founded a nonprofit that would come to them wherever they were. Katya’s graduate skills and personal determination are reaching the region’s most vulnerable community members.
