WRITING CENTER
Our team of undergraduate and graduate peer consultants supports the Seattle University Community to write effectively across languages, cultures, and modalities at all stages of the writing process.
Supporting the Campus Community
Seattle University Writing Center supports the SU community from all levels of writing expertise, voices, experiences, and writing practices to achieve their writing goals. The Writing Center seeks to provide an accessible, supportive, and collaborative space for learning and growth through one-on-one peer consultations. Located in the Lemieux Library and a part of Seattle University’s English Department, the Writing Center is dedicated to supporting our campus community, including faculty, staff, and undergraduate and graduate students.
Get Writing Support
Our Promise to You
We believe that effective writing often comes from open conversation and that all writers benefit from having thoughtful feedback. The Writing Center offers hour-long sessions designed to help students negotiate all phases of the writing process and supports writers to strengthen:
- the clarity of their writing
- knowledge of the disciplinary convention
- confidence in adapting productive writing strategies.
Through open conversation, thoughtful feedback, and helpful writing strategies we empower students to develop and write in their own voice.
Writing consultants work with clients (who are students, faculty, and or staff) to address their concerns and questions. The consultation can include brainstorming an outline, making sure that the assignment criteria are met, working on grammar conventions, and negotiating rhetorical choices to best accomplish the writing goals. Peer consultants work collaboratively with students to invite and stimulate creative and critical thinking, making the Writing Center a lively space for learning for everyone.
Our Services
We offer three kinds of consultation to match your needs.
- In-Person Consultation: A student meets one-on-one with a peer consultant in the Writing Center space.
- Synchronous Consultation: A student meets one-on-one with a peer consultant in an online video or text chat.
- Asynchronous Consultation: The student submits their draft to our online scheduling tool and the peer consultant reviews it, makes comments, and sends it back.
