Directions to St. James Cathedral

Students of all faiths and their families are invited and encouraged to participate in the Baccalaureate Mass. Tickets are not required for the Baccalaureate Mass, but seating is limited.

Robing: All degree candidates are to wear their caps, gowns, and hoods for the Baccalaureate Mass. You may change into your academic robes in St James’ Cathedral Hall, entrance on Columbia Street beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13th. You may leave your coat safely in the hall, but please do not leave valuables or money.

Processional: Please be at the Cathedral main entrance (on Ninth Avenue) by 2:15 p.m. to be a part of the processional. The processional will begin at 2:30 p.m. with faculty members leading the group For this event there is no precise marching order; simply line up two-by-two. Faculty marshals will direct you into pews and organize the recessional from the church.

St. James Cathedral is located at 804 9th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104, near Ninth and Marion in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood just blocks from Seattle University.

Directions

Driving Directions

To reach the Cathedral take the James Street Exit from I-5 and head East (up the hill) on James Street and then take a left on 9th Avenue. The Cathedral is located two blocks north on the right hand side.

Wheelchair access is available at the Northeast (Marion Street) and Southern (Columbia Street) entrances of the Cathedral.

If driving please arrive early to allow yourself extra time as there is an event at the Cathedral immediately before the Baccalaureate Mass.

Parking

Parking options may be limited.

FREE PARKING may be available in the unmarked spaces in the O’Dea High School parking lot across the street from the cathedral.

PARKING for a FEE may be available in the nearby Cabrini Tower Garage.

Campus parking will be hosted (no charge) for students, staff, faculty and guests attending commencement events. For map of Seattle University parking, please visit Campus Parking Locations.

Walking from campus

Start at the corner of Broadway and Madison, the Northwest corner of campus. Take Madison south west (up the hill) to 9th Avenue. Turn left on 9th Avenue, the cathedral will be on your left.
