Mark Lloyd Taylor, director of worship and associate professor of systematic theology in the School of Theology and Ministry, and student Alissa Newton wrote an article on children, Christology in Kierkegaard and "Godly Play," for The Journal of Childhood and Religion. Daniel Peterson, instructor in Matteo Ricci College, has recently published Tillich: A Brief Overview of the Life and Writings of Paul Tillich. The book offers an introduction to the Protestant theologian who challenged conventional notions of God and was called "the most dangerous theologian alive" during the height of his career. Yancy Dominick, core lecturer of philosophy, presented a paper titled "No Small Risk: Images in the Cratylus" at the West Coast Plato Workshop at Stanford University.

Madhu Rao, associate professor of management in the Albers School, has written a book chapter, "Collaboration in Global Intra-Organizational Systems Development," which will appear in Global Sourcing of Services,  published by the IDEA group.

History Professor Theresa Earenfight has just published Queenship in Medieval Europe, in which she documents the lives and works of queens and empresses across Europe, Byzantium and the Mediterranean in the Middle Ages.

Communication Department Chair Sonora Jha has published her first novel, Foreign. With a backdrop of real-life news stories about farmers' suicides in India, the book follows the story of a mother and son who are thrown into the crisis of a world that they know little about.

Heidi Beck, instructor in the Culture and Language Bridge program, presented "Broadcasts and Podcasts Deliver Oral Skills and Multicultural Understanding" at the TESOL 2013 International Convention in Dallas. The presentation was based on Beck's work with Culture and Language Bridge students, who have been broadcasting on KSUB, SU's radio station, for the past 10 years.

A team of Albers students finished in the top 16 at the CFA Investment Research Challenge of the Americas. The competition, which took place in Toronto March 20 and 21, included student teams from North and South America. Albers' team comprised Brian Reed, Juan Posada, Nate VanWesep, Niraj Kamat and Ryan Youngren. Katya Emm, assistant professor of finance, serves as faculty advisor.

Kathleen Horenstein, a graduate student in the College of Education's Student Development Administration program, has won the 2013 St. Ignatius Medal for Outstanding Graduate Assistant.

Danuta Wojnar, associate professor and chair of maternal child and family nursing, has written a piece on the challenges nursing faculty face in integrating clinical practice into their already busy academic careers. Leticia Guardiola-Sáenz, assistant professor of Christian scriptures in the School of Theology and Ministry, is the sole Latina contributor to the 20th anniversary edition of Women's Bible Commentary, Third Edition. The publication is a trusted resource for biblical scholarship, written by some of the foremost feminist scholars in the field today. Shusen Ding, professor of mathematics, was a main speaker at the International Conference on the Theory, Methods and Applications of Nonlinear Equations at the Texas A&M University-Kingsville. His lecture was titled "Geometric domains and the A-harmonic equations for differential forms." Several hundred mathematicians from different parts of the world attended the conference. Ding was also a co-organizer of a special session at the conference and is now serving as an editor of a special volume originating from the conference that will be published by Springer in 2013.

Theology and Religious Studies Associate Professor Cynthia Moe-Lobeda has published Resisting Structural Evil. Moe-Lobeda, Wismer Professor of Gender and Diversity Studies, also teaches in Environmental Studies program and the School of Theology and Ministry. Bonnie Buchanan, assistant professor of finance in the Albers School of Business and Economics, has been appointed managing editor of Journal of Risk Finance, an international, refereed journal that focuses on research in the field of applied risk management.

Bill O'Connell, associate professor of counseling and school psychology in the College of Education, published an article titled "Secondary School Administrators' Attitudes toward Confidentiality in School Counseling" that appeared in NASSP Bulletin, a peer reviewed journal. You can read the article here. A conference proposal was accepted on the same topic by the Washington School Counselor Association for their annual conference.

Professor Richard Delgado of the law school has been named one of the 30 Most Influential Constitutional Law Professors by BestCriminalJustice.com, a list topped by none other than President Obama! The site notes that while Delgado's work is not focused on constitutional law, it is often cited in related cases because of his focus on free speech and racial equality. David Green, director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, delivered the opening keynote address at the 20th Georgia Conference on College and University Teaching at Kennesaw State University. The address, titled "Behind the fig leaf," explored the theme of faculty preconceptions of students, based on Green's co-authored book, Understanding Undergraduates. Green also ran an invited workshop on the theme at Aarhus University in Denmark, followed by a second workshop related to his research into academic identities and faculty development. Nalini Iyer, English professor and director of the Office of Research Services and Sponsored Projects, has coauthored Roots and Reflections: South Asians in the Pacific Northwest. Associate Professor of English June Johnson Bube published the third edition of her global studies argument reader, Global Issues, Local Arguments. The book explores such controversies as the international graffiti scene, the global response to pandemics and antimicrobial resistance, and the economic and environmental impacts of water shortage and pollution.  Read more »

Sven Arvidson, director of Liberal Studies, presented "Opening Philosophy to Psychology: Challenges of Interdisciplinarity" at the 2013 Hawaii Universities International Conference on Arts and Humanities. The presentation especially examined what philosophers who seek convergence between these disciplines can learn from current thinking about interdisciplinary studies.

Rev. Tito Cruz,  associate professor of practical theology and leadership in the School of Theology and Ministry, is the only U.S.-based nominee for the International Academy of Practical Theology's Executive Committee. Nominees will be confirmed at the biennial meeting in Toronto this April. Cruz's current research on Buddhist and Islamic foundations of religious leadership is being supported by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation. He is also writing three separate articles on transformational leadership, dialogue education and Alfonso Nebreda, S.J., at the invitation of the Encyclopedia of Christian Education. Uli Steidl, assistant coach of the Seattle University cross country and track and field teams, won the Seattle Marathon for the ninth time. Steidl, who decided the day before to enter the event, posted a time of 2:28:26, almost two minutes faster than the second-place finisher. This was the first time Steidl had run in the race since 2006, when he won his eighth straight Seattle Marathon.

Assistant Professor of Communication Chris Paul presented on video games at conferences in the United Kingdom and United States. Paul's research focuses on applying tools rooted in rhetorical analysis to elements of new media, especially video games. Read more at Arts and Sciences.

Dan Dombrowski, professor of philosophy, was an invited participant at a conference on "John Rawls: Past, Present, and Future" at Yale University.

Gary Chamberlain, professor emeritus of theology and religious studies, had an article, "Polluting Our Future," published in the Nov. 19 edition of America magazine. Chamberlain also recently presented three sessions on Catholic Social Teaching and citizenship at Christ Our Hope Roman Catholic Church, and presented on "The Election: What's Next in Terms of Social Justice?" at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church.

Marc Cohen, assistant professor of management in Albers, wrote an article, "Empathy in Business Ethics Education," which has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Business Ethics Education. His article, "The narrow application of Rawls in business ethics: A political conception of both stakeholder theory and the morality of markets," which was originally published in The Journal of Business Ethics, has been translated and re-published in Revista Co-herencia.

Stephen Rice, assistant professor of criminal justice, co-authored two essays on early scholars' keys to success in The Criminologist, the official newsletter of the American Society of Criminology.
