What you need to know about the Interim Library

During the year of construction at the Lemieux Library, here are the things we think you'll want to know about this year's Interim Library...

Location

For 2009-2010, the library is located at the Interim Library at 1313 E. Columbia

Watch this video of how to get to the Interim Library created by Tara Wong.

Collections

The Interim Library has books, videos, computers, and cameras to check out. A small selection of our books are available this year in a closed-stacks collection (our entire video collection is available) and we will retrieve items for you. The way you use books in our collection this year is one of the biggest changes. Watch this animated video to understand what's going on....

Retrieving Books

Use the library’s catalog to request the items you want.  Library staff will retrieve books and videos for you, and will be available usually within hours of a request.  You will receive an email in your SU email inbox when the item is ready for you come pick up.  Advice: place holds from your office, dorm or any internet connection so that they’ll be waiting for you when you visit the library.

Here is a tutorial showing you how to request books and videos in our collection.

Summit and Beyond

Items not in our interim collection are often available in Summit, our 36-library consortium of over 26 millions resources.  Summit delivery takes 4-7 business days.  If you’ve never used Summit, we’ll show you how it works!  If Summit doesn’t have the item you need, we’ll request it through Interlibrary Loan.

Magazines, Journals and Newspapers Online

Through the library's web site, you can access thousands of online journals, magazines, newspapers, e-books, and research databases.  Don't pay for articles online!  If you want an article from a journal or magazine that the library doesn't subscribe to online, we will get you a copy for free through Interlibrary Loan.

Just Ask!

You can get research help any time of the day or night.  Just  go to our “Get Research Help” page to find out how to chat (24/7) with, call, email, phone us or come in!  You can also schedule a research consultation for more in-depth research questions.

Library as Space

The library has study space and computers.  Although we have less study space than the five stories of Lemieux, this is still a great environment to study and get help finding resources.

  • Looking for additional places to study on campus?  Here are more options around campus.

Writing Center

Housed in the Interim Library, this year the Writing Center will continue to offer the same kind and level of service that has made it an important resource for the Seattle University Community. The friendly and helpful undergraduate writing consultants look forward to meeting students from all disciplines and at any point in the writing process.   Visit the Writing Center website for current hours and contact information.

It’s all about the future! (or, “This too shall pass...”)

We're excited about the future of Lemieux Library and the upcoming McGoldrick Learning Commons set to open in Fall 2010.  The Library and Learning Commons will feature 24/7 study spaces, reading rooms, high-tech classrooms, a digital commons, a technology support center, multimedia production studio and more!  Our academic services will be integrated here and include the Writing Center, Learning Center, Speaking Center and Research Assistance!
