Matteo Ricci College offers two degrees.
The Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (BAH) is a special three-year degree for qualifying students within the six-member Matteo Ricci College Consortium of high schools. Students take courses in their junior and/or senior year of high school that are specially designed in conjunction with Matteo Ricci College faculty. Subsequently, these students are able to complete the BAH degree in three years of undergraduate study; most BAH students complete a second degree (not just a “double major!”) in a “traditional fourth year of College” in another school or college on campus, such as the College of Science and Engineering or Albers School of Business or the College of Arts and Sciences. Because the BAH degree is not designed to be a terminal degree, the overwhelming majority of BAH students continue to pursue graduate work in law, philosophy, medicine, engineering, or any other field of interest.
The Bachelor of Arts in Humanities for Teaching (BAHT) is a four-year, pre-professional degree open to all high school seniors from anywhere in the world who want to teach in the elementary, middle, or high school setting. Entering freshmen join a carefully selected cohort of dedicated students interested in becoming future teachers. Students share common goals and interests through a number of required and elective courses and carefully coordinated internships. BAHT students join BAH students in taking a number of required Humanities classes together; BAHT students are also required to take a significant number of courses in specialized fields of study outside the College in other schools and programs at Seattle University for their prospective endorsements. Because of the close affinity between Matteo Ricci College and the College of Education, all undergraduate BAHT students have regularized contact with appropriate personnel from the graduate College of Education.
