Jacob L. Diaz, Ed.D.
Vice President for Student Development
Dr. Jacob Diaz is the Vice President for Student Development at Seattle University. In his role he provides leadership for the advocacy, development and coordination of co-curricular initiatives, services and activities to promote the academic, personal and professional development of all students. Prior to this position, he served as Assistant Vice President and Dean of Student here at Seattle University. Prior to this position, Dr. Diaz held two positions at The University of Vermont. He served as the Assistant Dean of Students as well as the Director of the Center for Student Ethics & Standards. Dr. Diaz received his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies and his master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont. His Bachelor’s degree in English literature, with an emphasis on 20th century writers was attained at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Diaz’s scholarly and professional interests focus on dismantling oppression through dialogue and narrative writing, racial identity development and leadership through a multicultural lens towards the end of fostering engaging and vital learning experiences with students.
Nancy Gerou, Ed.D.
Assistant Vice President for Student Development
Dr. Gerou serves as the Assistant Vice President for Student Development. In that capacity she is primarily responsible for many of the operations, or administrative functions, of Student Development such as budgets, student health insurance, technology, crisis/emergency response, facilities development, and the management of the Student Center. She also supervises areas related to health and wellness such as the Student Health Center, Recreational Sports, and the university food service. Currently in her role as the Assistant Vice President, she also oversees the strategic planning process and the graduate assistant selection process for the Student Development division. Dr. Gerou received her Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She was employed by Seattle University in 1987 as the Director of University Sports. After serving in that capacity for six years, she became the Assistant Vice President for Student Development in 1993. Her duties and responsibilities changed significantly over the years since 1993, partly due to her serving as the Interim Director of University Sports for four of those years.
Michele C. Murray, Ph.D.
Assistant Vice President
In July 2006, Dr. Michele Murray joined Seattle University as Assistant Vice President for Student Development. In this role, she provides leadership for engaging students in co-curricular activities that enhance their intellectual, spiritual, and emotional development. She also supervises departments that facilitate student involvement, including New Student and Parent Programs, Leadership Development, Commuter and Transfer Student Services, Office of Multicultural Affairs, and Student Activities. Prior to her appointment at SU, Dr. Murray developed an affinity for Jesuit higher education at Loyola College in Maryland where she served as the Director of Leadership & New Student Programs and Assistant Director of Student Activities. She received her Ph.D. in Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Maryland, her master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Rhetoric & Communication Studies, from the University of Virginia. Dr. Murray’s research interests include student self-responsibility in achieving academic success, the effects of student involvement on self-concept, and the impact of diversity on students’ personal and intellectual growth and development.
Darrell L. Goodwin, M.Ed.
Associate Dean of Students
Darrell Goodwin serves as the Assistant Dean of Students in the Division of Student Development, where he coordinates the university student judicial system, and offers support to the Dean of students. Previously he served as the Associate Director for Multicultural Affairs and has provided leadership for a variety of key initiatives such as the Costco Scholars Program and the LGBTQ Advisory Board. Prior to his role at Seattle University he served as the Assistant Director of Student Life for Judicial Affairs at Creighton University providing oversight for the Center for Student Integrity. Darrell possesses a student centered approach and believes that providing students with the opportunity to explore their own integrity and develop their thinking in ever more complex ways is paramount to a Jesuit education.
Darrell obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Human Development and Theology from Boston College, a Masters degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont and is currently a doctoral student in the Educational Leadership program at Seattle University. Darrell is also the pastor of a local radically inclusive church called, Liberation Ministries.
Pamela Street
Administrative Coordinator
Pamela Street is the Administrative Coordinator for the Student Development Division at Seattle University. Prior to this position she was an Executive Assistant at Washington Mutual. Ms. Street holds a Bachelor of Arts in History/Education form Methodist College in Fayetteville, NC and a Certificate in Records Management from the University of Washington. She has one adult daughter and is an International Host Parent.
Tyrone Brown
Administrative Coordinator
Tyrone Brown is the Administrative Coordinator for the Office of the Vice President for Student Development at Seattle University . In his role he provides administrative support for the Vice President for Student Development. Prior to this position, he served as Communications Assistant at the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall, and founded Brownbox Theatre, African American theatre company. Mr. Brown holds a Bachelors of Arts in Theatre from Western Washington University, a Performing Arts Management Certificate from the University of Washington Extension Program, and is currently a graduate student in the new MFA in Arts Leadership program at Seattle University.
