About this Program

Business Management Major for a Better World

Learn how to lead people and manage company resources for the good of all. Managers play a key role in balancing the needs of companies with the needs of workers. Earn a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration degree majoring in management to learn what it takes to be an effective leader and manager.

The Management major will help you gain a strategic management perspective and the knowledge to structure organizations to meet profit and social responsibility goals. At the same time, you’ll become qualified in important communication and management skills to recruit, retain and guide individuals and teams to support successful companies and organizations.

Classes are small and experiential, which means you can really get to know your professors and other students. Undergraduate Business Foundation

  • Demonstrate critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrate competent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate competent leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the body of knowledge encompassed by the UG Business Foundation courses.

Management (MGMT)

  • Demonstrate an understanding of how business management concepts relate to service to others, organizational social responsibility, ethical practice, and commitment to justice.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of diversity (national, ethnic, cultural, gender, etc.) and the issues and challenges related to managing a workforce that is diverse.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of leadership in organizations both at the micro level (individual, teams) and at the macro level (e.g., strategic management, organizational structure).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of major organizational behavior/general management concepts, theories, and their applications (such as motivation, teams, and decision making).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of human resource management concepts and their application (such as compensation, training, and benefits).
  • Demonstrate effective written communication skills.

To achieve this minor, you will need to complete 30 hours of coursework, including Principles of Management and an ethics course. You can also choose between several other courses that discuss content such as human resources, managing work teams, diversity or organizational behavior. The goal of this coursework is to help you learn to motivate, lead and develop others while structuring organizations capable of meeting multiple goals.
