Connect with Community
The Sundborg Center for Community Engagement connects campus and community to promote a more just and humane world.
Welcome, Makers of Change
Our Mission, Vision and Pathway
The Sundborg Center for Community Engagement (CCE) connects campus and community to pursue a more just and humane world. Working toward a 2030 place-based vision, we aim to leverage the university's resources to advance justice, remove institutional barriers and educate change-makers. Learn more about the pathway ahead in support of community-led goals.
Our Impact
Supporting and mentoring scholars at all levels of their education is at the core of our mission. Every part of the journey is important. We are honored to walk beside those in our community who have been historically excluded and are therefore furthest from educational justice. We aim to be the bridge that leverages university resources for the common good.
Seattle University Youth Initiative (SUYI)
The Seattle University Youth Initiative (SUYI) is predicated on the belief that happy, healthy, successful youth require both strong school environments and nurturing homes in thriving communities. Through dozens of campus and community partnerships, SUYI provides youth with a pathway of programming and partnerships that encourage critical thinking and support the pursuit of college and career paths. It offers opportunities to participate in the economy as a maker and doer, as well as presenting the power of having choices.
Programs For Local Families
From early learning to family engagement, academic-focused programs to special events, our connections span all ages and neighborhoods adjacent to the Seattle University campus. All are welcome.
Community Partnerships
Each year, more than 180 courses at Seattle University involve students in partnerships with local nonprofits, schools or government agencies. These Community Engaged Learning (CEL) courses create thousands of hours of benefit to Seattle communities and provide transformational learning opportunities for Seattle University graduates.
Faculty and Staff CEL Resources
Whether you are new to Community Engaged Learning (CEL) or are a seasoned CEL course instructor, CCE staff are here to support faculty to deepen their impact on students and community partners. From faculty and staff development opportunities to funding and fellowships, CCE is here to help guide the CEL journey.
