About this Program

Power Up Your Photography with a Broader Arts Approach

The Department of Art, Art History and Design offers an exciting and unique opportunity for interdisciplinary study in the arts.

While the emphasis track is specific to photography, this program requires that you take courses outside your chosen field as well. You are encouraged to explore the endless possibilities that exist between photography and other art forms.

This unique photography degree is an excellent alternative to the BFA program. Each student designs an individual program in consultation with a fine arts faculty adviser.

Seattle University is part of the thriving Capitol Hill Arts District, the first arts district named by the City of Seattle and the densest arts neighborhood in the State of Washington!

You can explore photo exhibitions and collections at Photographic Center Northwest, Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI), Seattle Art Museum, Northwest African American Museum (NAAM) and a wide range of galleries.

You’ll find new connections and inspiration for your work with other artists at 12th Ave Arts, Neumos, Velocity Dance Center, Northwest Film Forum, Frye Art Museumand Hugo House. Just a short bus ride away is the Seattle Center, home to many arts organizations, including the Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP).

Seattle University undergraduate Fine Arts students should be able to achieve the following:

Creative Spaces for Artists

The Billodue Makerspace at Seattle University, located in the Jim and Janet Sinegal Center for Science and Innovation (Sinegal Center), provides creative spaces for artistic exploration. You will be able to participate in a variety of maker-related activities including sewing, fiber arts, 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, vinyl cutting, and glass work.
