SU's Education Abroad Office offers scholarships to students participating in programs affiliated with SU (SU-Sponsored, SU-Exchange, and SU Faculty-Led).

Many Program Providers and Host Universities provide their own scholarships to students participating in their program. Below is a list of SU’s partnered Program Providers offering their own institutional scholarships.

In addition to EAO and partner institutions’ need-based aid, there are other national scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need.

  • Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship - up to $5,000 for Federal Pell Grant recipients. Students studying a Critical Need Language are eligible for up to $8,000
  • Freeman Asia- For Pell Grant Recipients studying in Asia
  • Fund for Education Abroad - up to $10,000 to students with demonstrated financial need, preference to students of diverse backgrounds

These are scholarships through the U.S. State Department for U.S. citizens studying critical-need languages as part of their studies abroad.

This list includes both national and program-specific scholarship for particular underrepresented student populations.

The list below includes links to individual scholarships as well as databases of scholarships for education abroad.

Keila S. - Psychology (Japanese Minor)

Because of the Gilman Scholarship’s support, I was able to buy my round-trip plane ticket to Japan, pay for my housing, and cover my necessary expenses, and even some “just for fun” expenses. This meant I could continue saving my own personal money from working, or use it to cover any personal expenses such as activities, entertainments, buying souvenirs, etc. It truly was a dream come true to be able to fund this education abroad experience and open my eyes to a different part of the world.
