McGoldrick Alumni Scholarship Program

In 1979, the Seattle University Alumni Board of Governors established the McGoldrick Alumni Scholarship Program specifically designated for children and grandchildren of SU Alumni.

The university and its donors are dedicated to supporting this merit scholarship to continue the legacy and excellence of Seattle University from generation to generation. In the past, a committee out of the Seattle University Alumni Board of Governors chose a select number of students to receive the McGoldrick Scholarship. Since Fall of 2005, the scholarship is now offered to all eligible first-year students who apply by the Regular Decision deadline of January 15th.

The McGoldrick Alumni Scholarship is named after the late Fr. James B. McGoldrick S.J. (1895-1983), who served as a dean and professor of educational psychology at Seattle University. Through the years, Fr. McGoldrick was a teacher, counselor and friend to thousands of Seattle University students.

In the spirit of Fr. McGoldrick’s dedication to students, the McGoldrick Endowment Fund helps support children and grandchildren of Seattle University alumni. The scholarship is offered to all eligible first-year students.

Scholarship Requirements and Renewal

Scholarship Criteria

Applicant must be a sibling of a current student or alumni, child or grandchild of a qualified alum, or the niece or nephew of clergy who are SU alumni.

Consideration will be given to all legacy undergraduate students, including transfer and international students.
Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and competitive SAT or ACT scores.
Applicant must complete the regular application for admission by January 15.
Applicant must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 1.
Recipients of the Sullivan Scholarship, Educational Benefits, or Presidential Authorization are not eligible. SU money in combination with other institutional offers cannot exceed tuition.

Scholarship Renewal

Scholarships will be renewed each year provided the student completes 45 credits per year, maintains a 3.0-grade average, and follows the standards outlined in the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.

Scholarship Amount

The McGoldrick Scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to qualified students based on the criteria above.

Application Process

Complete the undergraduate application for new student enrollment.
As part of the undergraduate application, you must list the full name of your family members who attended Seattle University, the date of their attendance, the year of their graduation, their relationship to you, and their maiden name (if applicable).
The fee for the undergraduate application will be waived for all McGoldrick Scholarship applicants.
Notification of the McGoldrick Scholarship will be sent with the student's financial aid award post-acceptance.
