Seattle University NABA Chapter Joins 2024 National Convention in Las Vegas   

In June 2024, three leaders from Seattle University’s National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Chapter—Ransford Armah (President), Rosemary Olanrewaju (Secretary), and David Kabiera (Fundraising Director)—attended the NABA National Convention in Las Vegas.

NABA, a national organization founded in 1969, is dedicated to promoting diversity in accounting and finance by supporting Black professionals and students through career development, education and networking opportunities. The convention featured workshops, keynotes, and a career fair, offering invaluable insights. Professor Niranjan Chipalkatti, SU’s NABA Faculty Advisor, praised their participation, highlighting Seattle University’s commitment to diversity.

The chapter, with about 30 members from both undergraduate and graduate programs at Albers, has seen significant growth since inception last year. A key highlight was a networking mixer hosted by the Seattle Chapter, where the team connected with local leaders including Tai Moultrie, CPA, MBA, President of the Seattle Chapter. This provided valuable industry insights and strategies for strengthening their chapter’s initiatives.

Inspired by the experience, the student officer team is planning new professional development sessions and networking events for the upcoming year. “The convention transformed our vision,” said Armah. With strong leadership, the Seattle University NABA Chapter aims to enhance its campus presence and support student careers, embodying Albers’ commitment to fostering future business leaders.

Beta Alpha Psi President's Corner: Reflecting on the Start of the Year

As president of Beta Alpha Psi, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible start to our year. It’s been so rewarding to see our chapter grow this fall with new members who bring diverse perspectives and enthusiasm. Watching our community come together—whether through professional events, service projects or social gatherings—has been a true highlight for me.

This quarter, we’ve hosted insightful presentations from professionals at Clark Nuber, Armanino, Deloitte, KPMG and the FBI. These events have sparked meaningful discussions and offered members valuable career insights.

We were also proud to host our annual Meet the Firms event, welcoming representatives from 16 firms to connect with our members—our largest event yet!

Beyond professional development, we’ve also focused on giving back through community service. Our members have participated in street cleanups and organized community lunches, which have been great opportunities to make a difference locally while growing closer as a group.

Looking ahead, we’re eager to build on these efforts by organizing a corporate tour and scheduling more social events to foster stronger connections among members. Additionally, we’re looking forward to welcoming speakers from other outstanding companies such as EY, Amazon, Grant Thornton and more.
