About this Course

This course Introductionduces the phenomenon of global poverty from a social science perspective. We will investigate the definitions and measures of poverty, its causes, and potential solutions. The course explores several ongoing and important debates affecting societies around the world—such as the impact of globalization, environmental change, health disparities, and women’s rights—to determine their involvement in persistent poverty. This course includes an optional short-term study abroad experience in Mexico to provide an added study dimension to the complexities of global poverty.
