About this Course

This course takes an applied approach to research design, data gathering and analysis. It aims to prepare you to be a proficient producer , and a discerning consumer  of data so that you can solidly support your research inquiries and policy propositions, accurately evaluate the claims made by others, and effectively communicate your results. This course is concept oriented and focuses on domestic and international topics that are of environmental and social import. Concepts covered include: specification of questions to guide inquiry, data gathering, descriptive statistics and graphic presentations, and statistical hypothesis testing. We will use both excel and the statistical software SPSS in our data analyses. Through the course, students will get hands-on-training in designing a research proposal, designing a questionnaire, gathering data and using statistics to analyze their findings.
