Jumpstart for Families

Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students and community Corps members to serve preschool children in underserved communities. Our proven curriculum helps children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for kindergarten, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap.

Jumpstart works with students at five locations in Central Seattle:

  • Bailey Gatzert Elementary
  • CISC at Yesler Community Center
  • LAUNCH at Madrona Elementary
  • Denise Louis Education Center at Yesler Terrace
  • Tiny Tots Development Center
  • Jumpstart teachers participate in a five-week training series during the fall of each academic year, prior to entering the classroom, with classroom participation beginning each January. Training is ongoing throughout the year.
  • Teachers spend a minimum of four hours each week in the classroom (two sessions per week for two hours each).
  • Classroom sessions with scholars focus on literacy, language, and social-emotional learning.
  • Classroom sessions last around 18 weeks, January through June.
  • Tuition is free for all families
