Washington Middle School Programs

The Redhawk Academic Mentoring Program (RAMP) at Washington Middle School aims to be a safe place for students to find support in others to build, grow, and strengthen skills and relationships. We support academic achievement and social-emotional well-being.

  • We envision: scholars and families fully, intentionally, and authentically engaged in the learning process and decision making as it relates to their journeys.
  • We value: justice, relationships, inclusion, respect and holism.
  • We seek: to engage Washington Middle School scholars and families in such a way that shows them how vital they are to the school and larger community, and acknowledging ownership of their education that will lead to increased academic performance.

One-on-one mentoring is offered four days per week. Scholars (students in grades 6-8) work with a Seattle University student individually once per week during a non-academic class period, where the focus is on building relationships and work to support their social-emotional academic development.

Individual classroom support is a way for Seattle University students to support the social-emotional academic growth of scholars in classroom settings. University students are placed in a classroom and support teachers in small group settings.

The 8th grade Change Makers cohort is offered once per week. Scholars (students in 8th grade) meet as a cohort with Seattle University mentors, where the focus is on community building, academic readiness and group-identified interests. Mentors and scholars also work on the transition to high school. Once there, the cohort at Garfield and Franklin high schools work with Change Makers Program Manager, Makaelah Smith, to foster the cohort and community.

RAMP After School provides programming for youth after school hours when possible throughout the year. Academic Mentors are asked to make a full year commitment.
