Biography

Years Teaching at Seattle University: 1976-2007

In addition to being a mathematician and innovative teacher, Carl Swenson has a passion for technology, music, and writing. For a long time he was the most tech-savvy member of the Seattle U. Mathematics Department. He has written several guides for using TI graphing calculators. Briefly Carl was Chair of the department. He is also known for service to SU, the SPLASH! program for middle school girls, and the Archdiocese of Seattle.  Currently, he and his wife of over 40 years, Julia Buchholz, live on Capitol Hill and have two grandchildren. Their son, Will, who graduated from SU with a degree in political science, is a Major in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama in 2013, with Carl and Julia in attendance.
