Dr. Dana Brickham’s passion involves supporting and collaborating with students on their educational journey to become counselors. She uses humor, joy, compassion, and presence in her teaching igniting an inner growth in the students that she works with. She also integrates mindfulness, cultural humility, and trauma-informed practices into her teaching. Her style also encourages self-reflection to foster a deeper awareness on greater social issues affecting clients and the field of counseling.

Prior to joining Seattle University, Dr. Brickham had 10 years of experience teaching for Western Washington University for the Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling Program (CACREP Accredited). She is also a co-founder of THE CHEC Center, an organization focused on bringing about DEIA change by using cultural humility, empathy, and compassion. She completed her PhD in Rehabilitation Psychology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and has been a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor for 18 years, Licensed Professional Counselor for 9 years (WI), and is newly licensed as a Psychologist (WA).

Dr. Brickham’s scholarship has been centered in counselor-in-training burnout, mindfulness, cultural humility, and disability justice. She is also interested in strengthening the therapeutic relationship and in psychedelic integration work. Dr. Brickham presents at numerous conferences such as: the National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE), International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals-State of Washington Chapter (IARP), the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education (NCORE), the American Psychological Association Conference, and the Resilient Intellectuals Seeking Equity (RISE).
