Kate Elias, PhD

Dr. Kate Elias is a seasoned academic leader and higher education professional with a wealth of experience in student success, advising, and academic support services. She holds a PhD in American History from Rutgers University, where her academic journey laid the foundation for a distinguished career in higher education administration.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Elias served as the Director of Academic Advising and Learning Support Services at Linfield College, where she played a pivotal role in supporting students’ academic achievement and personal development. Her extensive background in student support also includes positions as an academic advisor at both Oregon State University and Rutgers University, as well as valuable experience as an admissions counselor, helping students navigate the complex landscape of higher education.

From 2009 to 2024, Dr. Elias held the position of Associate Dean for Student Academic Support in the College of Arts and Sciences, where she led efforts to enhance academic advising and helping students overcome academic and personal difficulty. Throughout her tenure, she was deeply committed to improving the student experience, fostering an environment of academic excellence, and supporting students as they navigated the challenges of university life.

In her current role as the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Success at Seattle University, Dr. Elias is a key leader in driving initiatives aimed at improving student retention, satisfaction, and overall success. She collaborates with university leadership to create and implement strategies that enhance the student experience, including the development of a comprehensive Center for Student Success.

Dr. Elias also serves as the Pre-law advisor at Seattle University, leveraging her expertise to guide students interested in pursuing legal careers. Through her extensive network of relationships with law schools across the country, she provides valuable insights and mentorship, helping students navigate the admissions process and find the best fit for their legal aspirations.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Elias is an active member of the Seattle community. She enjoys exploring the vibrant neighborhoods of Capitol Hill and downtown Seattle, sampling new restaurants, and discovering the many parks and outdoor spaces in the region. An avid hiker, she frequently embarks on camping trips and enjoys outdoor activities around the Puget Sound, embracing the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Elias cherishes time spent with her family, finding balance and joy in her personal life through these outdoor adventures and local explorations.
