Long Term Disability

Long-Term Disability insurance provides you monthly income protection after 180 days of being unable to work due to a disabling condition. Seattle University pays 100% of the premium for Long-Term Disability insurance. Eligible faculty and staff are automatically covered as of the first of the month next following, or coincident with, completion of one year of benefits-eligible service.

Below is a brief outline of benefits. Refer to the insurance certificate for a summary of plan benefits. Under all circumstances, the insurance policy will take precedence over information contained on this website or within the certificate.

Basic Benefit Amount 60% of monthly pay. $9,000 maximum
Offset to Basic Benefit Income from sources such as Social Security
Definition of Pay   Your monthly base pay rate as of January 1
Maximum Period Benefits are payable until Social Security normal retirement age.  Different maximum period for disability occurring at age 62 or older
Guaranteed Acceptance You are guaranteed Long-Term Disability coverage, but are required to provide proof of disability and be under appropriate care of a physician
