RedhawkTHON, an annual campus-wide fundraiser benefiting Seattle Children’s, has another stellar year of support.
One of Seattle University’s most cherished traditions, RedhawkTHON—an annual springtime fundraiser benefiting Seattle Children’s Uncompensated Care Fund and the Gender Clinic—was a rousing success. RedhawkTHON raises funds throughout the academic year but culminates with a final day-long event, this year on April 22, that features a last push for donations along with fun activities to keep participants motivated and engaged. And this year, the event raised $14,095!
“We are grateful for the generosity and support of our community and are proud to stand up for gender justice and proudly advocate for equality and inclusivity for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity,” says Executive Director of RedhawkTHON Carson Price, ’23. "This event was a true testament to the power of coming together for a common cause at Seattle University and we are honored to have been a part of it. Seeing students take time out of their weekend for social justice for the greater Seattle community is one of the most powerful things I have felt at this school in my time here."
During the event, therapy dogs were present for pets and cuddles, a photo booth was set up, Seattle Children’s “miracle kids” and their families were celebrated and a silent auction was happening throughout the day. This event takes an entire year to plan and the RedhawkTHON team worked harder than ever and beat last year’s fundraising total by more than $1,000.
“I wanted to ensure we hosted an event where people understood what our organization was about and why we do what we do. I don’t want to be that group on campus begging people to donate—I want to be the group on campus that is dedicated to raising funds to benefit our local children’s hospital,” says Director of Events Natalie Neumier ’24. “As next year’s Executive Director, my hope is to carry on this legacy. Every kid deserves a chance at life and if we can play any part in helping that to be true then that’s all that matters.”
“As their second-year advisor and working closely with RedhawkTHON’s amazing student leaders, I have seen the dedication and connection students and the campus community as a whole have to the cause. The students put hours and hours of hard work into creating a fun, engaging and purposeful event,” says Graduate Coordinator Citlali Yanez Sanchez. ’23. “Thank you to everyone who showed up, donated and supported RedhawkTHON!”
