Dr. Daniel Turner comes to SU from the University of Washington business school.

From Husky to Redhawk, Seattle University has named Dr. Daniel Turner as the next Dean of the Albers School of Business and Economics. Currently, Dr. Turner is the Brix Endowed Fellow in Marketing and Associate Dean at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. He will begin at SU on July 1, 2025.

Dr. Turner replaces Joseph Phillips, PhD, who has served as Albers Dean for the past 24 years.

Seattle University Provost Shane P. Martin describes Dr. Turner as an accomplished educator, higher education administrator and consultant.

“He has a strong record as a values-driven, strategic and collaborative leader who prioritizes innovation and a growth mindset,” Martin says.

At Washington, Dr. Turner teaches Strategic Marketing Management, Pricing and Marketing of Innovations courses in various MBA and executive education programs, receiving several teaching awards including the Foster School’s PACCAR Award for Teaching Excellence.

As Associate Dean for the master’s programs, Dr. Turner drives the strategic direction of graduate education, overseeing admissions, curriculum, operations, career management and alumni relations for Foster’s seven MBA programs and six specialized master’s degrees.

Under his leadership, Foster’s graduate portfolio expanded significantly in both scale and student impact. Foster’s master’s programs have grown from $12.5 million in revenue, 625 students and seven programs to $47 million in revenue, 1,131 students and 13 programs. Dr. Turner designed and executed leadership development programs for organizations like Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing and the Gates Foundation.

A first-generation college student, Dr. Turner received his PhD from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He also holds an MBA from the Olin Business School at Washington University in Saint Louis and a bachelor’s from Saint Louis University’s Chaifetz School of Business.

As Albers dean he says he looks forward to exploring bold ideas and deepening community partnerships to prepare students to be principled leaders ready to tackle big challenges and seize opportunities.

“I am deeply honored to join Seattle University and the Albers School of Business and Economics, communities where academic excellence and a strong sense of purpose come together in service of a more just, more sustainable and more humane world,” Dr. Turner says. “I look forward to working with SU’s faculty, staff, students, alumni and business supporters to extend the Albers legacy of values-driven innovation within Seattle’s world-class business community and beyond.”
