Office of Diversity and Inclusion

Pursuing inclusive excellence and cultural transformation through collaboration, partnership, and commitment to our Jesuit, Catholic values.

True Excellence Cannot Exist in the Absence of Inclusion.

In the relentless pursuit of inclusive excellence, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion collaborates with partners throughout campus to foster meaningful inclusion - and cultural transformation.

We believe, like Audre Lorde, that, "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences."

Our work is anchored in, and animated by, our Jesuit Catholic values and mission, which calls us to embrace and celebrate the whole person, and the wonderful uniqueness of each individual.

"There is a certain kind of peace that is not merely the absence of war. It is larger than that. The peace I am thinking of is not at the mercy of history's rule, nor is it a passive surrender to the status quo. The peace I am thinking of is the dance of an open mind when it engages another equally open one."

Red Talks

This speaker series features intersectional voices on a range of topics. Led by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in partnership with the Office of the Provost, the series elevates faculty voices at SU across disciplines.

Equitable Faculty Hiring

The ODI and the Provost's Office partnered to explore key components of recruitment and retention of BIPOC faculty under LIFT SU Goal Three. The work resulted in a set of recommendations based on high-impact practices, which have since evolved into a Faculty Hiring Guidebook and attendant processes.
