Faculty Search Guidebook

The Faculty Search Guidebook reflects our shared institutional priorities: promoting inclusive excellence in a way that is anchored in and animated by our Jesuit, Catholic identity, in fulfillment of Reigniting Our Strategic Directions goals and principles. The processes outlined in this Guidebook encourage enhanced partnership in realization of the strategic goals and priorities of each college and department.

The Guidebook is the culmination of more than a year of collaborative work and draws upon high-impact practices for recruiting and retaining faculty with an eye toward welcoming excellent faculty who bring with them a range of intersectional backgrounds and experiences and an openness to our mission and values.

Equitable Searches and Hiring Training

During the 2023-2024 academic year, the university adopted new faculty search and hiring protocols to support Reigniting Our Strategic Directions Goal 4 (Promote Inclusive Excellence). Specifically, the new protocols support the sub-goals focused on the recruitment and retention of BIPOC faculty and staff, as well as our continued pursuit of enhanced mission alignment and inclusive excellence. Under the protocols, all faculty search committee members are required to participate in a two-part Equitable Searches and Hiring Training.

The training is facilitated in two parts. Part I can be taken at any time, and the certification for Part I lasts for three years. Part II is training tailored to a search committee once it is assembled; it is highly specific to each specific committee. These trainings are iterative and should be completed in order. Because of limited capacity, Part I training will not be available on demand. Instead, a number of sessions will be offered each quarter for faculty members to attend. Part II training is offered by request - but only one Part II training session is offered for each search committee. Because of this, Search Committee Chairs are encouraged to find a time for all members to participate in Part II training as early as possible in the process. These sessions are not offered asynchronously. Because of the highly interactive and discussion-oriented nature of these sessions, they do not lend themselves to asynchronous formats.
