Public Education in Beloved Community Initiative (PEBCI)
Transforming schools and communities through beloved community.
Leading with and for beloved community: College of Education’s new initiative for K-12 public schools
About PEBCI
The Public Education in Beloved Community Initiative (PEBCI) is a partnership between Seattle University’s College of Education and nine inaugural K-12 schools across Washington state, funded by Gates Foundation. This initiative provides funding for school leaders and teachers to enact beloved community projects within their communities.
PEBCI Mission
Our mission is to (re)imagine public education in beloved community, transforming the relations necessary between schools and communities. Through sustained opportunities for educators to engage in diverse ways of being and knowing, this initiative seeks to deepen educators' capacity to engage with their increasingly diverse students, ultimately contributing to students' wellness and academic and social success.
Grounded in Vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his profound and inspirational work toward eradicating racism, poverty and violence, we center his wisdom in creating beloved communities in public schools.
“Our goal is to create beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
